Missing playing

Thursday 27 July 2006 @ 10:07 pm

Has been a while since I have been able to get out and play golf.  Really missing it.  Unfortunately, the better half has had some medical problems and this has had me playing nursemaid.  Now not complaining (yes I am but shouldn’t) as you have to take the good with the bad.

Hope in another week to be able to sneak away and see if I can still hit them down the middle.  Should be interesting to find out.

On another note in surfing the web found a great story on the other side of Tiger Woods in The Daily News of Longview WA by columnist - Rick Woodson.  Made note of the human side of Tiger.  Check it out.

Tiger Woods is back!!!

Sunday 23 July 2006 @ 6:58 pm

He played the final round of the British Open like only Tiger Woods can.  Except for Ernie Els very early nobody got close.  Truly amazing to see his record when leading after 3 rounds in a major - 7-0.

Every time someone got close he answered.  Got to shake your head and wonder when you watch him reach the green in two on a par 5 without using a driver.

Don’t know what the final percentage was but at one point about halfway through the round he had hit the fairway over 85% of his shots.

All I can say is congratulations Tiger.

Unfortunately, looks like Phil Mickelson hasn’t recovered from his give away in the US Open.  Still an excellent golfer and finished 22nd which is still great.  Had hopes that he would be the one to give Tiger a run for his money in being the number 1 golfer after last year.  Guess we will have to wait and see who will step up and try to catch him.  Nobody that I can see right now but it will be interesting to see as somebody always does.

Looks like Tiger is back

Friday 21 July 2006 @ 5:10 pm

Unlike the US Open when he didn’t even play the weekend in his first time back since the death of his father, Tiger is back and looks like he could be very tough to beat.

Looking like the Tiger Woods of last year he has gone out and tamed the Royal Liverpool course.  Another day like today on Saturday and Tiger could be well on his way to a second straight Claret Jug.

Ernie Els though is only one back but then the gap widens.  Should be a great weekend of early morning golf watching for this Old Bald Guy.

Great new resource for golfers

Saturday 8 July 2006 @ 6:27 am

Just found a new networking site for golfers.

Let me explain what networking sites are.  If you think about a dating site for golfers, a place where you can find others in your area, see events that others have posted and maybe find a golf partner.  Great idea in my mind.

Now a few caveats - it is brand new so it will take a bit for it to grow into a great resource but it is definitely worth checking out and inviting your friends.  Check them out here.

Great way to save strokes

Tuesday 4 July 2006 @ 11:20 am

If you are like me you are always looking for ways to improve your golf game.  Now for me it is sometimes more difficult because of my back.  I have ankylosing spondolitis which is sometimes referred to as bamboo spine.  Yep unlike most people my back is not even close to being straight.

I really enjoy golf and keep going back because of the one hole each round where I think I have finally gotten the hang of this frustrating game.  Then comes the next tee and I quickly realize that was a pipe dream. ;-)

A week ago I broke down and bought an ebook “The Simple Golf Swing” that I have been looking at for a while.  After all the various swing aids I have tried haven’t worked out for me.  Some of them have helped but I just haven’t been able to get the consistency needed to play a solid round of golf.  The one I bought worked quite well for my drive and created a consistency there but that screwed up my iron play.

I don’t hit it long enough to make the green on the drive so what I gained I lost in other places.  Frustrated ???? You betcha.

David has put together a great system and made it simple enough that even a crooked back old bald guy like me can use it.  It has given me a consistency to my swing I thought my back would never allow me to achieve.

Now can I hit 300 yd drives - NO!  But can I hit a 200-220 yard drive down the middle of the fairway 8 out of 9 holes - ABSOLUTELY.  More important I can hit the iron or fairway wood straight too almost every time.  If you are frustrated with your game I would strongly recommend you try his system.  It has been a God send to me and if it can work for a crooked back old bald guy it can help you.

Check it out at “The Simple Golf Swing“.  Let me know what you think of it by leaving a comment.
